Q. On a scheduled weekend trek, do we have to attend a prior workshop for preparation?

A. Yes. There are several things that need to be addressed before individuals or groups head out for open water. Required paperwork necessary for the program, BSA Swim Test, Gear Packing, Navigation, Tides and Winds, Food and Menu, Personal Gear Shakedown, Program Gear, Campsite Setup and Takedown, Waste Disposal, Care of Kayaks, Open Water Rescue, and The Buddy System to name a few. You are in our care when you are on an outing. It is our responsibility to maintain safety at all times. During our Summer Camp operations all of the above are covered in the first two days of the program.

Q. Can a group bypass the Kayak workshop if they have taken a Kayak Orientation Course somewhere else?

A. Again, it is our responsibility to maintain and operate a safe program. We can not depend on the skills of others or the lack of skills on the part of others to approve you for our program.

Q. How often does Camp Blue Heron schedule weekend programs?

A. We try to have at least two weekends of Sea Kayaking in both the spring and fall months. Special bookings can be arranged for individual groups. See Kayak Workshops.
