Camp Blue Heron offers a wide selection of activities for First and Second Year Campers as well as for the Older Camper. In addition to the comprehensive list of Merit Badges offered, Scouts at Camp Blue Heron can also participate in a wide variety of extra-curricular activities. No matter how old you are, there will be plenty of exciting opportunities in store for you on the trails at Camp Blue Heron.

Located southeast of Riceboro, Georgia, our 300-acre camp is rich with history and southern woodland beauty. As you explore the trails, you’ll be following the footsteps of the ancient Creek Indians, woodland explorers, Colonial and Civil War soldiers, and be taken by the awesome beauty of the natural wildlife that inhabits the local area. In the cool of the evenings, take advantage of the starlit skies as you study Astronomy and star identification.
You’ll have a chance to earn as many Merit Badges as you can, participate in camp-wide events, field trips, enjoy the challenge of our High Adventure Programs, test your skills and abilities on the C.O.P.E.                                             WOODSMAN PROGRAM
                                               
                            For Scouts under First Class - 10 ˝ -12 years old
                               

First year Scouts are challenged by the WOODSMAN PROGRAM a daily three hours program giving first year scouts a chance to learn all the basic outdoor skills required for ranks through First Class. Scouts who already are good swimmers should be able to earn the Swimming and First Aid Merit Badges. The program is filled with many special activities to make learning fun and to reinforce the Learning Activities.

PROJECT C.O.P.E., an acronym for Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience. All participating Scouts must have reached their 13th birthday by January  1st of the year of participation. This thrill packed encounter will stretch physical abilities and enhance self-esteem as it encourages the Scout or Adult Leader to accomplish more than they believed could be possible. This difficult, yet challenging experience should be reserved for the older more experienced Scouts and Adult Leaders. This program is sure to
please with the addition of our new 60 feet Climbing and rappelling tower! The Coastal Empire Council began this national program of the BSA in 1985, which has been successful in teaching skills to improve teamwork, trust, self-confidence, decision making, problem solving, and communication skills, while enhancing self-esteem in hundreds of Scouts and Leaders. Sturdy, well-constructed athletic shoes, or hiking shoes, leather work gloves, athletic supporters (option), jeans or other sturdy long pants with pockets, are necessary items. A special C.O.P.E. T-shirt and C.O.P.E. certificate will be presented upon completion of this course. There is a $20 fee to participate in Project C.O.P.E. Offered every week during the Summer Camp Program.


Climbing Merit Badge Program - Camp Blue Heron will be offering a 2-hour Climbing Merit Badge course each afternoon for Scouts 13 years old and up. Learn new rope and knot tying skills beyond the eight basic. There will be a $15 course fee. Earn your special Patch and certificate this summer!

Make a Big Splash at our Olympic Pool and Lake Bryant! Do you like the water, boating, sailing, canoeing, snorkeling and swimming? If so, come on and join in on the fun at beautiful Lake Bryant and Camp Blue Heron's Olympic Pool. Improve your basic swimming skills and earn your Swimming Merit Badge. Already a good swimmer? Then try earning the BSA Mile Swim Award. Enjoy the beauty of the lake while you try your hand at earning other waterfront Merit Badges like Lifesaving, Rowing, Small Boat Sailing and other awards. Sign-up for our awesome Aquatics Program and you can earn the BSA Lifeguard Certification.

                                       BSA LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION


All day – everyday. A review of all Aquatics skills needed to be an Official BSA Lifeguard. Classes will be offered for both Scouts and Leaders. Participating Scouts must be 14 years old or have passed the 8th grade. Adults must be in good physical condition and have a strong aquatics background. Certification patch earned is worn on swim trunks.
