                           TRAINER'S EDGE 2010

The Trainer’s EDGE is designed to develop and improve the skills of both veteran and prospective new trainers within the Scouting program and provide participants with basic elements and concepts of training adults and youth. The EDGE is part of a continuous process of updating trainers with the latest training methods, principles, and technologies. This EDGE is mainly for Scouters who will be delivering training to adult leaders as well as to the young people in Scouting. The EDGE conference uses contemporary training techniques and emphasizes the importance of experiential learning, or "learning by doing." Most of the sessions not only demonstrate good training methods, but also give participants a chance to interact and actually practice what they have learned.

“The Trainer’s Edge”‐‐‐‐‐‐A Message from the Course Director….

Every Scout deserves to be trained.
Every Scout deserves a trained leader.
Every Leader deserves to be trained.
Every Trainer deserves to know how.

Here is an opportunity for each unit to participate….This invitation is open to all. Anyone who makes presentations‐‐‐whether it be youth to youth, adult leader to parent or youth, leader to leader, or trainer to trainer.

Training is a very important part of the Scouting program. For those of you who are new to making presentations and those of you who have been making presentations for a while ‐‐‐ there is always an opportunity to learn something new.

“The Trainer’s Edge” consists of four modules – Communicating; Logistics, Media, and Methods; Directing Traffic and Thoughts; and, lastly, the Participant Session.

The first three sessions go over the process of taking a syllabus from paper to your audience. Session 4 gives you the opportunity to make a presentation during the course and get feedback. Presenting is important, but a good trainer is more than a good presenter. A good trainer imparts knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors. A good trainer is a good listener.

Come and join us on Saturday, September 11, 2010, to find out how you would do this as a presenter. I would like to ask each Cub Scout Pack, Boy Scout Troop, and Venturing Crew to send at least one adult to complete this training. Do not forget about your youth ‐‐‐ senior leadership in the Troop, Venturing, as well as Varsity. They can greatly benefit from this learning.

**All participants must prepare a 10‐12 minute presentation from any BSA material. You should plan to bring whatever material and/ or equipment you will need with you. You will be given an opportunity to present your material and receive important feedback on your presentation from your peers‐‐‐‐ how valuable is that!

Please see the attached flyer for information about the course and how to register.

Yours in Scouting,
